Description

Hello everyone! I know I haven't post anything since forever but now I am starting a new series featuring all the beautiful disney and non-disney ladies; in their historical concepts. The first thirteen will be the official disney princesses.

The Beauty and Beast is set in 18th century France and I decided to draw her in late 18th century outfit - well because I love those Marie Antoinette style dresses and hair. This certain dress is called Robe a la Polonaise which was very popular in 1770s and 1780s. I know it's a little bit too long, usually you could see the shoes under the robe a la polonaise, but not every time.

By the time Louis XVI became the king, France was in the middle of economic bankruptcy. French people suffered from Seven Years' war's and later American Revolution payments and new ideas of freedom and equality where gaining popularity in people's minds. France had been absolute monarchy since the times of Louis XIV and the royal family and highest nobility lived in Versailles palace. They didn't have no idea how much people suffered but Marie Antoinette wasn't the cause of Revolution. When we are speaking about a huge changes in history like revolutions, it's absurd to think that one person could cause just a big happening. It is just impossible. The causes for French Revolution were much deeper in France's history and effected by many things like Seven Years' war and American Revolution, age of enlightenment, rising social inequality and economic mismanagement.

And I know, I know so many others have done historical disney princesses before but because I am studying art history now in university I really wanted to draw as historical accurate princesses as I could. I think it's really fun.

I was always fascinated by Rococo. :)

I heard that Marie Antoinette was a real bitch. Hell, back in High School, in my World History class, I read in my textbook about how the Women of Versailles stormed the palace demanding they bring Marie out. They shouted "We'll wring her neck! We'll rip her heart out!"
